Ducked into Rockpool Bar and Grill this week for some wagyu beef burgers with J. The first bite into this monster of a burger is all it takes to remind you why it’s a perennial favourite. A thick, juicy, David Blackmore wagyu beef pattie, topped with bacon, gruyere cheese, chutney, zuni pickle and onion, in a sweet, golden brioche bun; perfect balance between the sweet, acidic toppings and the meaty flavour of the coarsely ground beef.
A radicchio, cos and endive salad was a good accompaniment given the richness of the burger. The palm sugar vinaigrette dressing added just enough sweetness to compliment the bitter salad leaves.
For something sweet, we had profiteroles to share. This was a bit of a gamble, considering I’ve been disappointed every time I’ve ordered profiteroles at a restaurant in the past (they’re always just a bit stale and soggy). However, the gamble paid off; coated in chocolate and hazelnut praline, the choux pastry was given a lovely crunchy coating, and a salted caramel ice cream filling was a nice, refreshing finish.
Such a great spot for a quick, relatively inexpensive lunch. Maybe I’ll get lucky next time and the Mishima burger will be on the menu.
