Chez Dré revisited (several times :P)

October 9, 2011 at 9:04 pm (Bakery, Breakfast/Brunch, Coffee, Dessert, French, South Melbourne, Victoria)

I anticipated that I’d be back to Chez Dré after tasting that brilliant chocolate tart and the consistently great food, great coffee and friendly staff have made it very difficult to stay away.

First of all, say hi to Dré 😀  Thank you for stopping to have a chat despite being under the pump from the steady stream of customers.  And thank you for all the brilliant food you and your team are cooking up in South Melbourne.

So, first order of business is, of course, macarons.  Cherry-coconut is definitely my favourite.

The tonka bean mousse with white chocolate glaze looked and tasted perfect.

For breakfast, the house-made granola with poached fruit and yoghurt foam is up there on my list of tastiest brekky cereal dishes.

If muesli/granola is not for you, then try the house-made brioche french toast with vanilla mascarpone cream.

When visitors came from Sydney, we made a lunch-time visit to Chez Dré and they loved the walnut and spinach stuffed mushroom served with house-made beans and croutons, as well as pea soup served with a crusty baguette.

Coffee is as good as ever- from the Maling Room, they are now serving a “Chez Black” espresso blend, a “Symmetry” blend for milk-based drinks and daily single origins.

The menu has just recently been expanded, so I guess I’ll just have to go back again and try the new items 😛
