Grand Final Day at The Press Club

October 4, 2011 at 10:27 pm (Greek, Melbourne CBD, Victoria)

Since moving to Melbourne, I’ve tried to get into the footy.  Honestly, really really tried.  But I just don’t find it that captivating.  So when I was given the option of attending one of the various grand-final-related get-togethers or a private function at The Press Club (pretty much an anti-footy-final get-together), the decision wasn’t very hard.

Five courses, with wines, no one else in the restaurant but us.  Not to mention the wonderful company of like-minded people.  The only way it could have been better was if George himself was there 😛

So, onto the menu- and once again, there were tonnes of components in each of the courses, so I will try my best to remember as much as I can.

First course – White and green asparagus, grilled polenta, asparagus pudding, feta gel, snow pea salad.

Second course – 12hr slow-cooked pork hock, almond glass, ouzo soaked cucumber, apple, pumpkin, rhubarb and ginger jelly.

Third course – South Australian snapper fillet, zucchini flower, zucchini, onion and corn fricasse, cloud of almond.

Fourth course – The Press Club’s signature 18hr slow-cooked lamb shoulder, quinoa, almond skordalia, bean shoot salad.

Dessert – Ouzo soaked raisins, jelly, vanilla black rice pudding, vanilla bean custard, toasted cinnamon, rum and raisin ice cream, puffed black rice.  Served in a cute, ceramic yoghurt pot ^^

Wines were selected by the expert, J, and included a rosé, South Australian riesling and a white from Crete (I think it was Assyrtiko).

So my first Grand Final Day in Melbourne turned out to be pretty special after all ^^  Sincere thanks to J, the organiser, for the invite and for being a wonderful hostess.
