‘This place makes me feel like a giant,’ said H as we took a seat inside the recently opened Little King, and I couldn’t have described it better myself. Complete with lace curtains, small wooden tables and porcelain animal decorations, it was like we had walked inside a dollhouse. And there was no greater comfort on that cold wintery morning than escaping into that cute little cafe, tucked away next to St Paul’s Cathedral, to the warmth and lovely aroma of baking muffins from the kitchen.
The mainly vegetarian menu at Little King changes daily, with soup, salad and sandwiches for lunch, a selection of breads and pastries from Dench, and home-made brownies, muffins and sweets, with coffee by Padre. The focus is on using seasonal, local, organic produce with vegan items provided by a friend of owner Ellie King.
Breakfast was lovely, dense, Dench raisin toast with creamy butter and beautifully smooth coffee, served with cute vintage saucers and decorative spoons.
